A 65-year-old driver of a Bounty outlet was taken into police custody after a biker was killed and a 15-year-old girl was injured in a crash at Farm, East Bank Demerara on Monday.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 12:15h. Dead is Errol Gonsalves, 50, of 79 Croal Street, Stabroek, Georgetown; while Harrissa Mohamed of Agricola, East Bank Demerara sustained injuries about her body, and has been admitted into the Georgetown public hospital. This newspaper understands that the girl was standing at the corner of the public road when she was struck down by the Bounty outlet vehicle.
Guyana Times International also understands that the dead man had just left the home of one of his closest friends, who had been killed in a car accident at Rahaman’s Park on Sunday morning.
In a release, police said investigations revealed that the driver of minibus BLL 939 was allegedly speeding along the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the rear of the motorcycle before striking down the pedestrian.
Gonsalves and Mohamed were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, and she was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The driver of the minibus is in police custody assisting with investigations, police reported.
The police did not indicate the direction in which the vehicle involved in the accident was headed.
